Education Funding

Over the weekend, Parents United Network sent out an update about some disturbing comments they've been hearing from legislators. Apparently, they think we're all satisfied with the progress to date on school funding. If that's true of you, you can stop reading.

But if you're still concerned about how the K-12 Conference Committee will reconcile the bills passed by the Senate and the House, and how the state will pay for whatever increase in school funding is finally passed, you need to do something about it this week.

From the Parents United Network weekly update:
Most of the decisions regarding education funding will be made this week. What we do, or don't do this week will affect our public schools and the children they serve for the next two years. Please, please take a moment and do this.

The message is simple--
"We are here, we are watching and what you do for our children will be remembered."

State Leadership:

Rep.steve.sviggum@house.us

Rep.erik.paulsen@house.mn

Rep.matt.entenza@house.mn

Sen.dick.day@senate.mn

K12 Conference Committee:

Sen.leroy.stumpf@senate.mn

Rep.barb.sykora@house.mn

Rep.mark.buesgens@house.mn

Rep.denise.dittrich@house.mn

Rep.sondra.erickson@house.mn

Rep.bud.heidgerkin@house.mn

Sen.steve.kelley@senate.mn

Sen.linda.scheid@senate.mn

Sen.dan.sparks@senate.mn

Sen.gen.olsen@senate.mn

...And don't forget your house member "@house.mn" and your senator "@senate.mn"

Burroughs PTA has a way to make this very easy for you. Take a look at this week's Burroughs Bulletin for a sample letter (or e-mail) to our legislators. Use it directly, or edit it to reflect your personal opinions. Either way, get it done and send it off to the decision makers listed above.

Or stop by the atrium before or after school on Wednesday, May 18. Volunteers will have copies of the sample letter that you can sign, and even envelopes and stamps. Let's get this done for our kids!
